It is often said that you have no idea what is going on inside other people’s homes, a phrase often tossed around in social media comments when listings show outrageous rooms inside otherwise mundane homes. But that phrase immediately came to mind when I saw this clip from Drake Anthony aka ‘Styropyro’ showing off the world’s strongest handheld laser.

The YouTube creator with 2.95 million subscribers debuted the world’s strongest handheld laser last Summer. He is now back with a new clip showing off how truly incredible this handheld laser is in the snow.

The World’s Strongest Handheld Laser In Action

Drake Anthony, better known as Styropyro on YouTube, first became interested in lasers at 12 years old after learning about them in school. That led him down a path of building them himself and later earning his undergraduate degree from Southern Illinois University.

Since then, he has gone on to build one of the most popular Science-focused YouTube channels with a particular focus on lasers like this one he built last year.

Anthony says “with an output of 250 watts, this laser eclipses the threshold for the highest laser danger rating by a factor of 500.” Adding that “just 0.2% of the laser’s power is already considered an instant blindness hazard,” hence why he is wearing protective gear whilst firing off his glorious laser in the snow.

Side note: we need more laser demonstrations in the snow. I say this as a born and raised Floridian who lived in NYC for a decade a while back but is back in Florida now and not around snow all that much. But man, lasers in snow is pretty awesome, isn’t it?

Here’s the world’s strongest handheld laser in action:

When Styropyro first debuted his handheld laser last year, he rolled out a long YouTube video with all sorts of awesome demonstrations. He was able to melt a penny, open a bottle, do some welding, and other awesome experiments.

That video also included a lot of information on the dangers of operating a laser like this and the necessary safety precautions. Which is important because as awesome as this handheld laser is, it’s clearly dangerous if not operated properly.

Dudes rock.
