A Zaxby's customer was left scratching his head after seeing how much the chain was charging for five, 10, and 20 wings, respectively.
A Louisville, Kentucky, Zaxby’s customer was left confounded after seeing wing prices on the fast-food chain’s website.
“I’m so confused right now. Somebody needs to check on the financials guy or whoever at Zaxby’s,” Alex (@igobuyalex) starts his video.
“Because I’m ordering traditional wings from Zaxby’s, right? And if I want 20 wings. I would pay three different prices here, OK?” he continues.
He shows Zaxby’s online ordering page. The first option displayed on the screen is five traditional wings, which is priced at $9.99. Next in line is a 10-traditional-wings deal that offers a much better cost-per-wing value: half of what the first meal charged customers. Those cost $10.
And then there’s the third selection, which advertises 20 traditional wings for $33.29. This, again, offers guests a different price per wing, around $1.66 each.
Alex says, “If I want 20 wings, I would pay three different prices here, OK? We have five traditional wings for $9.99. For one penny more, you can get 10 wings. And then for more than triple that price, you can get 20 wings,” he tells viewers.
Next, Alex questions why anyone would purchase any amount of wings other than the 10-count option. “Now why wouldn’t I … if I want 20 wings, order the 10 wings for $10 twice? Or I could order the five traditional wings four times and pay like $40. Or I could buy the 20 all at once and pay $33.29. None of that makes any sense,” he says as his clip comes to a close.
Location Matters
BroBible headed over to Zaxbys’ website in order to assess the costs of traditional wings. We selected a location in Louisville located at 4949 Dixie Highway for pickup. At this time of writing, five traditional wings were selling for $10.49. However, a 10-count of traditional wings was going for $17.79, and 20 for $33.99. This pricing structure makes a bit more sense but begs the question: Are there differences in pricing depending on the location?
At a Dallas, Texas, Zaxby’s location on 921 Commerce St., there are indeed different costs associated with the same traditional wings orders. Five pieces sell for $8.99 at this spot, 10 for $15.99, and 20 for $29.99.
So what’s the reason behind these changes in pricing? That’s due to the fact that the vast majority of Zaxby’s locations are independently owned by franchisees. According to 1851 Franchise, some 90% of Zaxby’s stores are operated by individual owners. This allows them to determine their own budgets and costs per item.
High-traffic and urban areas typically come with greater overhead costs. And this will almost always translate to item and service pricing. Crestmont Capital pens that Zaxby’s locations are no different.
So this fact, coupled with franchise owners having free reign to set their prices as they see fit, will inevitably culminate in pricing disparities.
Zaxby’s 10 Wings For $10 Deal
There could be another reason Alex was seeing 10 wings for $10: National Chicken Wing day.
According to Hunt4Freebies, Zaxby’s was selling 10 chicken wings for a dollar piece in honor of the obscure holiday. And if you look at the date Alex uploaded his video, it was indeed on July 29, which is the exact date National Chicken Wing Day falls on.
