- The Batman finally hit theaters in the United States on Friday, March 4.
- The film stars Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight and Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle.
- Movie goers are absolutely loving Kravitz’s electric performance as Catwoman.
As soon as I saw The Batman, I knew audiences were going to heap rapturous praise upon Zoe Kravitz for her performance as Selina Kyle. In fact, I said as much in a tweet as soon as the social media embargo lifted: while Paul Dano’s Riddler and Colin Farrell’s Penguin may be flashier characters, Kravitz brings a crucial balance and charm to a film that would otherwise collapse under the weight of its self-seriousness.
Paul Dano and Colin Farrell are going to receive tons of thoroughly deserved plaudits, but I actually thought the standouts of #TheBatman were Zoe Kravitz and Jeffrey Wright.

In addition to the charm that she brings to the character of Selina Kyle, Kravitz’s performance also shines when she’s sharing scenes with Robert Pattison’s Batman as the sexual tension between the two Gotham City vigilantes is undeniably palpable. Legitimate sexual charisma is quite rare in today’s watered-down, sanitized blockbuster projects (looking at you, Marvel Cinematic Universe), so seeing it achieved to such an extent has been quite the enjoyable change of pace for comic book movie fans.
Perhaps unsurprisingly — given the intensity of Kravitz’s performance and the general, uh, Big Bonk Energy of the internet — quite a few Zoe Kravitz memes have popped up in the wake of The Batman, all of which seem to share the same general sentiment: sheesh.

In addition to the excellent Kravitz, The Batman — which is currently playing in theaters — also stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/Riddler, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Jeffrey Wright as Gotham City Police Commissioner James Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Peter Sarsgaard as Gotham District Attorney Gil Colson
