Watch Jon Stewart’s Emotional Announcement That He’s Leaving ‘The Daily Show’

On Tuesday afternoon, news started circulating that Jon Stewart made an announcement to his studio audience that he will be leaving The Daily Show after 16 years of anchoring the show. The comedian’s ernest announcement aired this evening and it was just as emotional as you’d expect. Stewart didn’t quit cry, but there’s no doubt that was choked up breaking the news that it was time for him to move on from the franchise. After 16 years of lampooning the news and getting laughs out of all of us, the man deserves to have dinner with his family on a weeknight.

So what now? Stewart will continue doing the show over the coming months while Comedy Central’s brass figures out who will replace him. Even though The Daily Show feels like Stewart’s own creator, remember it’s a franchise that once had Craig Kilborn at its helm in the 90s. It’s different from the Colbert Report, which was dependent on Stephen Colbert to keep the show going.

Who do you see replacing Stewart? John Oliver is locked down with a SWEET gig at HBO where he only has to do one show a week. Maybe some other comedy A-lister who had SNL Weekend Update experience? Amy Poehler? Tina Fey? Uhhh… Colin Quinn? Or Daily Show correspondent alum? Jessica Williams? Michael Che? Rob Corddry? Rob Riggle? Uhhh… Olivia Munn? Your guesses in the comments.
