CONFIRMED: Matt Damon Will Return In New ‘Bourne’ Movie!

For months now there have been rumors swirling that Universal wanted to bring back Matt Damon to star in the next installment of “The Bourne” films and the Hollywood star has confirmed it. While on the red carpet for their resurrected fourth season of the HBO series “Project Greenlight,” Ben Affleck unveiled the exciting news that Damon would reprise his role as Jason Bourne in the fifth installment of the action spy thriller.

Affleck was talking to E! News about his physique for the upcoming “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” movie when he spilled the beans:

“Well, [Damon’s] going to be doing a Bourne movie next fall when I’ve just completely lost any semblance of physical fitness. So…”

Damon confirmed the breaking news which you can watch here:

“Yes, next year. It’ll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out. [Director] Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that’s all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes.”

Universal is hoping that Damon can re-energize the franchise after “The Bourne Legacy” starring Jeremy Renner made only $113 million at the domestic box office, compared to $227 million for “The Bourne Ultimatum” which featured Damon. This will be the third “Bourne” movie that Damon and Paul Greengrass have done together; he directed “The Bourne Supremacy” and “The Bourne Ultimatum.” Damon has praised Greengrass and talked about reuniting with the “Captain Phillips” director. Damon hinted at a possible return to the franchise while talking to CNBC about “The Bourne Ultimatum” in May, “It felt like such a good way to end it the last time. But having said that, I love that character and I’d love to see what happened to him.” There were previous reports that “The Bourne Identity” sequel would have a release date of July 15, 2016. Let’s hope that Damon can be “Bourne” again as a kick-ass CIA assassin.
