N.W.A. Biopic ‘Straight Outta Compton’ Debuts Trailer At Ice Cube Show

The first glimpse of the highly anticipated N.W.A. biopic “Straight Outta Compton” premiered in a very unlikely place.

During his concert in Sydney, Australia, former N.W.A. member Ice Cube premiered the first trailer to the upcoming hip hop movie.

Not surprisingly, the trailer opens with N.W.A.’s massive 1988 hit “Straight Outta Compton” from their debut studio album of the same name. The violent scene appears to take place around the 1992 L.A. Riots. The opening has a voice-over which says, “I’ll tell you what I see here. A lot of raw talent, a fire, bravado. You boys scared me to death. They said you’re dangerous. But you have a unique voice. The world needs to hear it.”

If the actor playing Ice Cube looks amazingly similar to the iconic rapper, that’s because it is Ice Cube’s son, O’Shea Jackson Jr. Eazy-E is played by Jason Mitchell. N.W.A.’s manager, Jerry Heller, is Oscar-nominated actor Paul Giamatti. Carra Patterson is playing Tomica Woods, Eazy-E’s widow who inherited his share of N.W.A. song rights — also a producer on the film.

Dr. Dre is portrayed by Corey Hawkins and Aldis Hodge, from “Die Hard: With a Vengeance” and “A Good Day to Die Hard,” plays MC Ren. Keith Stanfield is the actor that portrays a young Snoop Dogg.

“Straight Outta Compton” is directed by F. Gary Gray and tells the story of how “The World’s Most Dangerous Rap Group” emerged from the mean streets of Compton and revolutionized pop culture with their music.

The N.W.A. biopic is distributed by Universal Pictures and will open in theaters on Aug. 14, 2015.
