When someone told me that there was going to be a Bad Santa 2, before any casting information or plot leaks had come out, I remember thinking “Wow, that movie is going to be shit if they don’t get the original cast to come back.” Most sequels that replace the majority of the original characters (see: Independence Day: Resurgence, Daddy Day Care 2, Jurassic Park 2…I could go on) wind up being crap, the exception and not the rule being Iron Man 3.
Thankfully, it looks like the original cast has returned – Thurman fucking Murman is back, and goddamn does that 22-year-old adult look like every pedophile’s wet dream. We’ve also got Marcus back, who apparently has spent the last several years in jail, and as welcome additions we get to see Christina Hendricks and Kathy Bates in the teaser as well. Bernie Mac died in 2008, so unless you wanted to see his corpse paraded around on camera there was no way he was going to make an appearance and besides, who else do you need? The story really only centered around Willie, Marcus and Thurman – you could make the case that Sue (Willie’s girlfriend in the first film) was a main character, but she didn’t do much in the way of plot advancement and really only served as an excuse to have Willie bang it out with a chick who had daddy issues.
