Steve Harvey’s Miss Universe gaffe last night was heard round the world. Every corner of the internet was talking about it.
How, on such a monumental stage, could the long-time talk show host screw up so badly? Watching it play out almost seemed surreal to the point where I thought it was staged. Wouldn’t Fox want a ton of people losing their minds over a pageant that no one even had a clue was airing on Sunday night? Makes perfect sense.
As you can see in the picture above, in Steve Harvey’s defense if this screw-up wasn’t some pre-arranged, marketing hype play, the card that he read declaring the winner(s) definitely could of been organized better. But man, the time that passed allowing them to actually crown Colombia without any intervention was ridiculous, and suspect at best.
Well, here’s Steve Harvey’s explanation of how it all went down.

In addition, he also offered up an apology to both contestants on Sunday evening while the collective internet was losing their minds.
I'd like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake. I feel terrible.

Secondly, I'd like to apologize to the viewers at that I disappointed as well. Again it was an honest mistake.

I don't want to take away from this amazing night and pageant. As well as the wonderful contestants. They were all amazing.

Welp, if it was, in fact, staged, then kudos to the people at Fox for the whole diabolical thing and Harvey for falling on the sword for the absurd ratings. Regardless, it seems Steve Harvey is going to be synonymous with Miss Universe for years to come.
Might as well host again next year, right? Talk about a great gig.
