The Big Lebowski and True Detective almost inhabit the same universe. Endemic to both are a sense of mystery, intrigue and conspiracy. The only real difference is that one’s a comedy and one is not.
It doesn’t take a huge stretch of the imagination to see each as the other. True Detective an absurdist buddy cop comedy by the Coen Brothers or Jeff Bridges and John Goodman playing the grizzled, serious roles made famous by Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey.
Which is why this script flip by Darrin Fullerton is so fantastic.
