Tom Cruise Reveals The Title For ‘Top Gun’ Sequel

The sequel to “Top Gun” will not be “Top Gun 2.” Instead, Tom Cruise’s character is definitely the focus as the title for the sequel to the fighter jet epic will be “Top Gun: Maverick.” Cruise announced the title of the second “Top Gun” movie in an interview with Access Hollywood.

“It’s called ‘Top Gun: Maverick,'” he said. Cruise added, “I didn’t want a number.” I think they blew it. How do you not go with “Top Gun: Danger Zone.”

Sorry Iceman, they’re not going with your suggested title of “Top Gun: Dog Fight.”

“Stylistically, it’s going to be the same,” Cruise said. The sequel will still have the need for speed as the 1986 classic, and will even the soundtrack will be done by German composer Harold Faltermeyer, who provided the music in the original.

“Aviators are back, the need for speed,” Cruise told Access Hollywood. “We’re going to have big, fast machines… It’s going to be a competition film, like the first one, but a progression for Maverick,” Cruise teased.

When asked if any of the original cast would be back, Cruise pretty much said it’s “classified,” “We can’t talk about it, you’ve just got to see it.”

As to when we will be flying into the danger zone again, there is no release date. Cruise told an Australian TV show that the sequel “is definitely happening” and filming would likely begin “in the next year.”

What do you think the plot will be? Maybe Goose’s son is a student at Fightertown USA in Miramar and Maverick is his instructor?
