Tom Hanks Recreated The ‘I Was Running’ Scene From ‘Forrest Gump’ And This Is Everything

Tom Hanks is an American treasure. He’s been starring in hit films since Jimmy Carter was the President of the United States and is one of the most iconic actors Hollywood has ever known. Tom’s starred in Apollo 13, Road to Perdition, The Green Mile, Castaway, A League of Their Own, Sleepless in Seattle, Big, the entire Toy Story franchise and scores of other legendary flicks. Above all, though, whenever Tom Hanks walks into an interview they inevitably ask him about Forrest Gump.

During a recent Graham Norton Show interview, Tom Hanks busted out his infamous ‘I was running’ monologue from Forrest Gump while sitting next to Mo Farah, the world’s greatest distance runner, and Tom Hanks managed to capture lightning in a bottle once again. The portion you’re looking for of the clip above is in the latter half, but it’s all worth watching and I don’t want to spoil anything.

Like it or not, Forrest Gump is the legacy film Tom Hanks must live with every day and walk around this planet with people throwing random F.G. quotes at him all day every day. For his part, Tom Hanks actually seems to be pretty cool with this and realize the cultural impact his eponymous character in Forrest Gump had in the world, and he doesn’t get bothered when interviewers ask him about the film. I can’t imagine having interviewers asking me the same questions about the same film for a solid 20 years, I’d probably flip shit at some point because I have no patience for monotony. I’m impressed with Tom’s ability to keep it chill, we should all strive to be a little more like Tom.
