Taco Bell Xbox Series X Prize Bundle
Gentlemen, I’m pleased to inform you that it is officially Gaming SZN and the season is GOOD. I was fortunate enough to be gifted the Taco Bell Xbox Series X prize bundle this week and got my first hands-on look at the next-gen Xbox Series X Console. If you haven’t heard by now, fans across the USA have until November 4th to purchase a medium or large drink at Taco Bell (or via the Taco Bell app) and then they’ll receive a code on the cup for a chance to win this bundle. They’re choosing a winner approximately every 15 minutes and each entrant can put in three entries a day. So if you’re trying to get this bundle you know what to do!
Here we break down the box within the box and I get to open up the console and get my hands on it for the first time. This is my first attempt at an unboxing video and to say that I have no idea what I was doing is the understatement of the century. I’d also slept about 3 hours the night before and this was late in the night so I could barely get my sentences together and briefly forgot what the product name was at one point so forgive me for that. It’s been a long year! I’m much better at writing about something or discussing it when I’m not sitting on the floor in a quiet room because my toddler son is asleep in his crib one room away. I’ve got more coverage on the Taco Bell Xbox Series X coming in the days/weeks ahead but wanted you guys to see what it looks like.
Here’s a much more soothing unboxing video so you can get the image of me sitting on the carpet out of your head:
The New Age Of Hosting With Basil Hayden’s
I was fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of the future of hosting with Basil Hayden’s this week. With everyone at home and unable to visit distilleries the shift in hosting has moved to our kitchens. That’s where Basil Hayden’s has swooped in with this incredible virtual option.
I was very impressed with what they rolled out. It was done through this website where you can RSVP for the events on 11/9, 11/12, 11/16, and 11/19 and participate in those for free. They use Vimeo for the live stream and there’s a box where people can ask the experts questions which the experts can see in real-time and respond to but it’s really a one-way portal other than that, not like Zoom where you’re both looking at each other the entire time. Check out my bundt cakes and my cocktails:
The Mastering Mixology experience will be held on 11/9 and hosted by the Cocktail Bandits based out of Charleston. On 11/12, Beehive’s Pat Ford will be hosting the Curating Cheese Plates & Whiskey Pairings experience. On 11/16, Baked NYC’s Matt Lewis will take you through the ‘Decadent Desserts’ experience where you can make those Bundt cakes above, and Hom Sweet Hom’s Lauren Hom will host the Hand Lettering experience on 11/19. You can RSVP to all of those (and participate for free) by clicking that button below!
The Kaikyo Distillery Whiskey and Gin
I’ve been curious about the ins and outs of Japanese Whiskey for a few years, ever since I mistakenly ordered a $120 pour of whiskey at one of my favorite bars (The Brandy Library) when I meant to order a $25 pour. And I was lucky enough to do a guided virtual tasting with Japanese Whisky featuring Master Distiller and Blender Kimio Yonezawa of the Kaikyo Distillery last Friday which was made even more awesome by the fact that I was drinking at a normal time on a Friday night but he and his crew were tasting whiskey at 8 in the morning in Japan. That’s dedication to the craft right there.
We tasted two whiskeys and made a cocktail with the 135 East Hyogo Japanese Gin which instantly became my new favorite gin and I’m not exaggerating in the least bit when I say I’ve mixed that Gin at least 4 times since last week. The Hatozaki Japanese Whiskey is a blend of Malt Whiskey (at least 40%) and Grain Whiskey. What struck me the most of this whiskey was the light color. They don’t use any artificial coloring and the finished product is so light it almost struck me as an Irish Whiskey in the bottle but on the tongue I got coconut, almond, and a smooth sweet finish. The Hatozaki Small Batch Japanese Whiskey ($65) is a must-buy for anyone out there right now looking for holiday gifts for whiskey lovers. This is 100% malt whiskey aged in Mizunara, Sherry, and Bourbon oak barrels. The finished liquid has a borderline creamy vanilla character to it with some barrel char on the end. You can follow any of those links below to find these bottles on Drizly!

Best Essentials For Guys
The brand new Timex x Huckberry “Cola” Sport Watch (Limited Edition) ($189) just dropped and this is a watch that will sell out very fast because it’s that damn good. This is a classic everyday style you can wear with just about anything in your wardrobe. This design was inspired by the legendary military-inspired designs of the 1970s and 1980s. Starting with a blank canvas, Huckberry drew on those styles from the 70s and 80s and went with a military-inspired ‘crosshair’ dial with polished and faceted 6, 9, and 12 markers. This watch is finished with a woven stainless steel bracelet and a functional aluminum timing bezel, the HB x Timex “Cola” Sport Watch is everything you could want in a watch.

Limited-Edition Timex ‘Cola’ Sport Watch
This new limited-edition creation from Timex was done in partnership with Huckberry and for this watch, they looked at the vintage military designs of the 70s and 80s and came up with the gorgeous and affordable Huckberry x Timex “Cola” Sport Watch ($189). As a nod to those vintage military designs, this watch has a ‘crosshair’ dial with polished and faceted 6, 9, and 12 markers. It comes with a stainless steel bracelet and is powered by a Seiko PC33 quartz movement.
The Timex “Cola” Sport Watch ($189) was just released last Friday and this limited-edition watch won’t last long because it’s such a steal at this price.
Interval Shorts From Ten Thousand Apparel
I was recently turned onto Ten Thousand shorts. For a while now, I’ve worked out in Bird Dogs but it’s not even the slightest bit of an exaggeration to say these Ten Thousand shorts are exponentially better than what I’ve been wearing and I’m now 100% on board with these going forward. These shorts have a supportive but comfortable fit with the liner and a silky smooth body feel on the skin.
Ten Thousand has several styles but we’re looking at The Interval Short today which is ideal for HIIT, AMRAPS, and Metcons. I’ve been loving the Interval Short for Cycling + HIIT exercise. This short has an internal liner that keeps everything in place but you can also order them without the liner if you’d prefer.
The mission of Ten Thousand was to distill athletic apparel down to its core by employing committed athletes to create apparel for fellow athletes. These short are made from the lightest four-way stretch material around and they’ve been exhaustively field tested (by athletes, for athletes).

Kicking Back And Relaxing
First up here we have the exquisite Courage & Conviction American Single Malt (2nd Batch) ($75). The first batch of the Courage & Conviction Single Malt from Virginia Distillery Co. was one of the highest-rated single malts on the planet and the second batch is back with a 91-point score from Whiskey Advocate. What makes this single malt worth every penny is it’s made with 100% malted barley and aged for a minimum of 3 years in Bourbon, Sherry, and Cuvée casks which thanks to the distinctly hot summers and cool winters of Virginia bring out flavors A LOT faster than it would take in Scotland’s relatively stable (and cold) climate.
The temps at Virginia Distillery Co. ranged from 105 (highs) to below freezing (lows) during the cask aging process which yielded an evaporation rate from 6-12% per year versus the 1% in Scotland. Once the whiskey was aged in the three cask types from 2016-2020, the blend that went into the bottle came from 50% Bourbon casks, 25% Cuvée casks, and 25% Sherry casks. It was bottled between July and August of this year (2020) and the total 2nd Batch of Courage & Conviction production came out to 1,650 cases (9,900 bottles) so you should be able to find this bottle but it won’t last too long. You can visit the distillery’s website for information on purchasing + batch details + additional releases
