I’ve always enjoyed port wine but I truly fell in love with the stuff on a trip two years back to the Douro Valley in Portugal where the world’s port stocks come from. And I think it should go without saying but I’m a big fan of whiskey in general. That’s why I was VERY excited to sample the Angel’s Envy Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Tawny Port Wine Barrels which was recently released.
We are early in 2020 but for me, this is already the front-runner for best whiskey release of the year. Beginning this weekend (February 8), people will have the chance to purchase one of the limited-run bottles. Only 5,400 bottles are available across KY, CA, FL, IL, NY and TN. This whiskey has a gorgeously nuanced nose of oak and dried fruit that is complemented by black pepper, cinnamon spice, toasted nuts, and clove on the tongue. The smooth finish lingers with hints of chocolate. $249 is NOT cheap but this expression is well worth it.
