Winter parkas have had a recent resurgence in the last several years. As we’ve veered into a common headspace where we want our clothes to incorporate utility and functionality as much as style, classic garments like the parka have come to remind us that we don’t have to always try and reinvent the wheel.
What is a Parka?
A parka is a long, weatherproof coat that typically features a fur hood (now faux fur) and ample pocket space. When it comes to the parka’s length, the purpose is to provide added coverage from cold temperatures and wind without inhibiting movement. And as for the pockets, you’ll typically notice multiple of them sewn on with deep space to hold any types of goods or gear you might want to keep on you.
How to Wear a Parka?
At the end of the day, a parka invokes feelings of adventure. Whether it be taking on a cold-weather hike, or walking 20 feet from your apartment to the bodega to grab a coffee, the parka is a coat that emboldens us to take on the elements instead of avoiding them.
What’s great about the best winter parkas for men is they’re diverse, so you’ll notice there’s a parka for every type of style. Wear them with casual and rugged clothes, business casual, comfort wear, performance wear, you name it.
The Best Winter Parkas for Men
Check out of favorite winter parkas below for every type of personal style. Discover the one that’s right for you, and use your parka as this year’s secret weapon for staying warm and toasty all winter long.
Relwen Fishtail Parka
Made with a blend of polyester, nylon, and cotton, and filled with 100% recycled polyester, this parka from Relwen is ready to take on any winter adventure. We love how water-resistant the shell is, as well as how the coat stays extra-toasty without being too puffy.
Nike Sportswear Premium Essentials Parka
A more streetwear-inspired parka, this one from Nike is built more for city moves. It’s made with a midweight fabric that has a crinkled look and feel, and the yarn is dyed to get a rich solid color like this Stone one you see above. Wear this on your next trip to the city art museum.
Lands’ End Men’s Expedition Winter Parka
Lands’ End is known for its classic prep style. This parka is made with a 100% waterproof nylon shell and contains all of a parka’s key features—square pockets, a lined hood, and a long cut so the coat goes down past the waste.
Levi’s Arctic Sherpa Jacket
This parka is outfitted with a warm sherpa lining and comes with a detachable hood. Our favorite aspect of this coat is the ample pocket space. There are four square pockets on the front, which also adds a touch of a military field jacket look to the parka.
The North Face Men’s Gotham Insulated Jacket III
For the adventurist, the North Face Gotham III is the type of parka we all think about when scaling Mount Everest or exploring Antarctica. 100% windproof and waterproof with sealed seams, this parka will bat down any nasty weather that comes your way. Go with this vibrant House Red color.
Columbia Eager Air Exchange
Three detachable layers give this parka maximum versatility. What’s cool is the waterproof outer shell can be converted into a normal nylon jacket, and the inner layer of the parka can be converted to a lightweight fleece zip-up. Simply put, we love the utility of this parka.
Alpha Industries Slim Fit N-3b Parka
Woven with 100% nylon, the N-3B was the first piece of outerwear that Alpha Industries created for the military back in 1959. Since then, they’ve gone on to produce the best bomber jackets and the best flight jackets around. Alpha Industries always has you covered when it comes to creating a coat that’s durable, yet stylish.
Guess Heavyweight Parka
The heavyweight design will stand up to the nastiest of winter weather. Add some fur lining for extra cold temps and you’re good to go. This is a parka that will pair nicely with your best office outfits.
Wantdo Mountain Ski Jacket
Waterproof and windproof, this parka is designed to battle the elements, and keep you warm, of course, thanks to the oh so warm and comfortable thermal insulation. This is a sportier, more athletic parka for those who like to stay active in the cold weather.
Eddie Bauer Superior Down Parka
Get deep into the wilderness with Eddie Bauer’s parka, and stay cozy below zero degrees Fahrenheit thanks to the coat’s 650 premium down insulation. Plus, this is a coat you can style tastefully with your best mid-layers.
Howler Brothers Spellbinder Parka
Austin-based Howler Brothers made this Spellbinder Parka with 100 gram PrimaLoft Gold insulation. The shell is water-resistant, and features like ribbed cuffs and zippered handwarmer pockets make the parka deceptively warmer than one might think. This is a great pick for taking with you on your travels as it packs up nicely.
adidas Essentials Down Parka
The Essentials Parka uses Primegreen recycled materials to weave together a smart coat that’s great for wearing at sporting events or on a morning coffee run. Features like elastic cuffs, DWR coating, slip-in pockets, and a full zip high neck make this a no-brainer for those who want a parka with a more modern look.
