Sci-Fi Novelist Builds ‘The Most Insane ’80s Supercar Of All-Time’ From The Book He Wrote And I’m A Lil’ Peanut Butter And Jealous

ecto88 80s supercar

This science fiction novelist and “slam poet”, Ernest (Hey Vern!) Cline, has “Frankenstein’d” this supercar that combines the best parts of famous vehicles from iconic ’80s movies and tv shows like Back To The Future, Ghostbusters, Knight Rider, and… The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension… uh, sure, why not. Anyway, call me crazy, but this supercar is a little too subtle…

Like, I read the headline and was expecting wings from the winnebago in Space Balls, the jacked-up engine from the Ford Falcon in Mad Max, the wood paneling from the Family Truckster in National Lampoon’s Vacation, the red stripe from the A-Team van, the ’01’ from the General Lee in Dukes of Hazzard. You want to sell me on “Frankenstein”, give me Frankenstein.

Cline called his suped-up hybrid a “happiness mobile” and, on that point, I have to agree. You can’t be sad riding in that monstrosity.

Ernest wrote the 2011 novel Ready Player One, which received a couple prestigious awards and is being adapted into a film directed by Steven Spielberg that’s slated to begin production this spring.

Cline was also the Austin Poetry Slam Champ in 1998 and 2001 and has competed in two national slam contests. One of his “slams” titled, “Dance Monkeys Dance” served as the narration for this video, which has 2.5+ million views on YouTube…

This guy is basically living in science fiction. His Oculus Rift sessions must be off the chain link fence, friends.
