I recently invested in an outdoor fire table and while it’s not exactly a campfire it has been a complete game changer for my quality of life this past month and a half. Sitting outside next to the pool and soaking up the fire table is pure bliss in and of itself but tossing back some whiskey sends it to that next level. I’ve put together a collection of 2021’s best everyday carry essentials for men that are just as good from sun up to sundown as they are when sitting fireside and sipping some fine whiskey. You can purchase any of these items by following the links throughout the article.
I’ve been soaking up this 3-part ‘Bourbon Reflection’ IGTV video series from Knob Creek and needed to share it with you gentlemen. If you’re at all stressed and need to get your head right then check it out right now. It focuses on the sacrifice and hard work that it’s taken to get through the recent past and each ‘reflection’ features cameos from 7th Generation Master Distiller Fred Noe. For the whiskey, I’ve chosen the Knob Creek 15-Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey ($115+) which you can search for on Drizly to see if it’s available in your area. 15 is the magical year when it comes to whiskey. You knew that already. And this expression (77% Corn, 13% Rye, 10% Malted Barley mashbill) is full of oak on the nose and a palate of tobacco, caramel, raisin, and thick with brown sugar.
The Lems Shoes Boulder Boot Mid ($135) is one of the best boots out there in terms of versatility. I tend to think of these as a cross between everyday boots and travel boots because they’re actually packable (you can roll them up) but they’re truly rugged enough to withstand anything and everything you throw their way. Boots are a staple of your everydy carry essentials and these are made with wind- and water-resistant 1200 denier nylon uppers and the LemsRubber air-injected rubber outsole that’s softer, lighter and more flexible than traditional rubber.
The Filson Ultralight Vest ($125) is a premium stylish semi-lightweight vest that you can wear to work, on the golf course, layered with a shweater or shawl in cooler weather, and a million other scenarios. It is filled with 60g PrimaLoft® Gold insulation that offers a supreme warmth-to-weight ratio and remarkably if still provides insulation when it’s wet.
You can pair that vest with the Flint and Tinder 365 Pant Pants ($98) which come in 15 different colors and are perfect everyday pants. Even if jeans are your preferred style you’re going to love how these chinos frame your lower half. And they’re sold in every length x waist configuration you’re looking for.
Our next featured item in this everyday carry collection is the Q Timex Reissue Digital LCA Watch ($149) which is a glorious digital watch reissued from the late ‘80s. The liquid crystal analog display is recreated from the original model and it features a unique digital/analog display and uses a single-bulb backlight for a truly retro vibe. This really is a throwback watch that you can rock every single day.
The Viski Whiskey Tumbler Set ($34) is quite literally the gold standard in bar glass fabrication. These faceted lead-free crystal whiskey glasses feel damn good in teh hand. They have a solid weight. You pick it up and know it’s meant ofr whiskey drinking. It’s the perfect way to enjoy your bourbon!
I wanted to throw the TOMOLO Triple Flame Cigar Torch Lighter in here because I’m ripping a cigar (while writing this) in honor of my Tampa Bay Buccaneers making the franchise’s 2nd ever Super Bowl appearance and I personally own this lighter. I can’t list the price because Amazon doesn’t allow us or anyone to list their prices (because they change regularly) but this really is a super affordable ligther that is fantastic.
Next up is The Elko EDC Pocket Knife ($70) from the James Brandwhich is made with 416 stainless steel, black oxidized hardware, phosphor bronze washers and has a blade constructed out of Carpenter CTS-BD1 steel with high hardness, good wear resistance, and excellent edge retention. As far as everyday carry goes it’s hard to top this if you’re looking for a compact knife.
Listen, the best way to enjoy any whiskey is however YOU enjoy it. If that means one big ice cube/ice ball, multiple ice cubes, or water then that’s the perfect way to sip it. I used to be an elitist about this and thought bourbon had to be sipped neat until I had one of the most famous distillers in Kentucky’s history look me in the eyes and tell me it doens’t matter how you drink your bourbon as long as you’re enjoying it with friends and family. With that said, the Viski Granite Whiskey Stones ($24) are a great way to chill your whiskey without watering it down. Check ’em out!
Last up is the Aer Day Pack 2 Backpack ($140) which is an all-time favorite of mine. I’ve had an Aer Fit Pack 2 for years and I’ve traveled the world with it. It has a super handy zippered pocket at the bottom for your shoes as well as a massive central compartment. I often use this as my carry-on bag for flights. It also has a laptop sleeve and pockets throughout for everything you need to store.
Again, if you need to get your headspace right I 100% suggest checking out this Knob Creek IGTV series I mentioned at the start. It’s the good stuff. The escapism I’ve needed lately with how truly heinous the past year has been.
