Here Are 3 Key Stats About Men And Therapy From BetterHelp’s 2026 State Of Stigma Report That May Surprise You

BetterHelp State of Stigma Report

BetterHelp

As part of Men’s Mental Health Month this June, BetterHelp is offering 20% off your first month of therapy when you sign up (offer valid for new users only. Offer cannot be combined with insurance). If that isn’t the perfect opportunity to give talking to a licensed therapist a try, I don’t know what is! But for many men, it’s not that simple. That’s because there’s still an awful lot of stigma wrapped up in seeking mental health care. BetterHelp documented this phenomenon in a representative survey of 2,000 Americans for their 2026 State of Stigma Report.

Here were some of the more eye-raising stats uncovered in the 2026 State of Stigma Report:

1. 85% of Americans believe in the value of therapy, but 74% believe society discourages seeking help.

Encouraging to see that many people have come around on the value of therapy, but disappointing to see that not enough of them are taking the necessary steps, especially considering the next stat:

2. 77% of men reported anxiety symptoms, while 79% of men reported depression symptoms.

That’s far too many. No longer should men feel that opening up about what they’re feeling makes them any less of a man.

3. 82% of BetterHelp users would recommend their therapist, while 72% saw a reduction in symptoms.

Just goes to show what can be accomplished by simply making that leap and getting the help you need.

With BetterHelp, you can text, call, or video chat with a licensed therapist from your couch. No waiting lists or awkward waiting rooms, and you can get matched in under 48 hours. Think of it as a tool for everyday mental wellness rather than just something for moments of crisis. Because on good days or bad, we all could use support that is always accessible, wherever and whenever it’s needed.
