Jaguar Broke The Electric Water Speed Record With A 295HP Boat That Goes 88.61 MPH

If you are tapped into the world of electric cars and racing, then you already know that Jaguar has been killing it. They’ve beaten all of the other premium German automakers to market with an all-electric car, the Jaguar I-Pace, and they’ve got a Formula E team (electric racing) that’s been crushing it.

Now, Jaguar can add another feather in its cap because they’ve just set the electric water speed record with their V20E boat from a Formula E project. The V20E boat features a pair of Yasa electric motors, 320kg of batteries, and it puts out 295bhp. Jaguar set the electric water speed record on the Coniston Water in England’s Lake District after the boat recorded a top speed of 88.61mph (142.60km/h):

Now that Jaguar has set the new electric water speed record they plan on pushing it even further, according to TopGear:

“This is just the start”, said Jaguar Vector technical director and driver, Peter Dredge. ”The plan is to take the record further, and beyond that to understand the potential of electricity in high-speed craft and try to get the lead in that.”

Me? I won’t be satisfied until we have high-speed electric boats which are solar-powered and charge in real-time. Until I’m able to hop in my boat on the west coast of Florida and run all the way across the Gulf of Mexico without burning an ounce of fuel, all powered by the sun, I won’t be happy. Of course, I have zero technical training and I’m sure this isn’t at all possible but this is a hill I’m willing to make a stand on.
