Tote bags are everywhere these days. They’re great for carrying everything from notebooks to jackets, to snacks, you name it. Tote bags are great because they eliminate the need for lugging around a backpack when you only want to carry a few items for the day.
Now, finding a solid go-to tote bag is another story.
While praised for their utility, tote bags have also become a way to express style—which means a lot of cheap one have been getting churned on the market for quick buys.
The good news is we found a tote bag that’s as durable as it is handsome. Did they just call a tote bag handsome?
Philadelphia-based Peg and Awl has been creating fine goods out of materials like leather and waxed canvas for a while now.
Recently we caught wind of their Marlowe Carryall. It’s a reusable tote made out of waxed canvas and vegetable-tanned leather. The bag’s construction mimics a big brown super-market bag, and it’s designed to fit over the shoulder. Inside there’s even a little pocket for carrying small stuff like money or your phone.
Our favorite aspect about this bag is its versatility in use. Because the waxed canvas is so strong (19 oz of waxed duck canvas) you can easily store your laptop in it without worrying about any potential dings or drops. Or, if you’re feeling like taking it on a quick trip to the grocery store, you can throw is a number of different snacks and produce thanks to its 14″ tall and 11.5″ wide design.
