If you’re a Milwaukee Bucks fan right now, you’re getting pretty damn tired of all the headlines lately. Feels like an eternity ago that we were celebrating the title. Now, every new development with the team feels worse than the last. Frankly, I don’t blame Giannis for seeking greener pastures, but I sure wish everything would work out for him to stay. What will it take to keep Giannis on the Bucks? I have no idea. I’d probably start with not letting Jimmy Haslam lead any negotiations. Lord knows he’s shown us with the Browns what he can do when he’s in charge of a team. I don’t hate the Taylor Jenkins hiring solely because his name isn’t Doc Rivers. Maybe he can figure out what to do with Myles Turner. Perhaps some clever trade work with draft picks and the current roster can be done to give Giannis another strong running mate like he had with Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday.
If this is truly the end, then it was a magical run. I grew up in New York in the 2000s at a time when the Knicks were so bad that it wasn’t worth watching, so I never had a team until I moved to Milwaukee. I remember the fanfare when he first got drafted and got to watch him blossom from a skinny 19-year-old to an all-time superstar. This city and fanbase love him so much that they painted him on the side of a building downtown. Basketball might be business, and he’ll do what’s best for his career, but I know that Giannis will never forget what he means to Milwaukee.
