Nike Is Releasing The Nike MAGs With Power Laces In 2015, Just In Time For ‘Back To The Future II’ Nostalgia

In 1989, when Back to the Future Part II came out, the year 2015 seemed light years away. But here we are, still waiting for our hoverboards and flying cars and rehydrated pizza. A couple years ago the mad scientists in Phil Knight’s Nike labs created a pair of sneakers with power laces, making Marty McFly’s kicks-of-the future in 2015 to life:

As an ’80s baby, this is a dream come true. I’ve never wanted a pair of sneakers more in my life.

Nike designer Tinker Hatfield has said that they will release actual kicks with power laces in 2015, since it’s the year Marty McFly time-traveled to. You might recall their very limited release in 2011, where some Mags were selling for $75,000. But now we know more. the Speaking at the Agenda Trade Show in Long Beach, Hatfield elaborated more on the project. Via Nice Kicks:

Without giving a release date, Tinker confirmed that his team is working as hard as possible to deliver the Nike MAG in 2015 with Power Laces, but also reminded us all that we still have “11 and two-thirds months left in 2015″.  In other words – it is happening, but as to when, it is still unknown.  It was almost a year ago ironically that we were on hand to hear Tinker confirm that we would indeed see the Nike MAG in 2015 with Power Laces.

Nice Kicks has a obtained a copy of what the official US Patent for the Power Laces looks like.

How badly do you want a pair?
