This Guy Has The World’s Most Valuable Whiskey Collection Valued At $16.7 Million And It Includes 3 Of The Rarest Macallan’s Around

Most people can quickly recall the most expensive whiskey (or wine) they’ve ever had the privilege of drinking because for most people it’s a really special occasion to sample truly rare and fine spirits. This is almost certainly not the case for Viet Nguyen Dinh Tuan, a resident of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

His collection of rare and fine whiskeys has just been certified by Guinness World Records as the most valuable whisky collection on the planet. In total, his collection is valued at around $16,701,563.88 (€15,070,746) and it includes some of the rarest bottles on the planet.

He has one of the only complete ‘Macallan Fine and Rare collections’ on the planet which is so difficult for a collector to put together primarily because of the Macallan 1926. Only 40 bottles of the Macallan 1926 were ever released and many of those were lost throughout the years. Mr. Viet Nguyen Dinh Tuan has not one, not two, but three bottles of the Macallan 1926 in his collection.

According to the BBC, another one of his most coveted bottles is one of only 12 bottles of Bowmore ever released. Another one of those 12 bottles recently sold for $385,000 (£300,000) at auction.

The Guinness World Records certification says there are ‘over 500 bottles’ in the collection which was recently appraised and certified by the ‘valuation experts at Rare Whisky 101 (RW101)’ according to the BBC. He received his verification earlier this month on November 1st and now has the Biggest Swinging Richard™ in the Worldwide Whiskey Game.

Also included in his collection is ‘one of only 24 bottles of the 1919 vintage Springbank’ which is another ‘holy grail’ find for whisky collectors. The team that certified his collection, Rare Whisky 101, was completely blindsided by the extent of this man’s outrageous arsenal of the world’s finest whiskeys:

Having amassed more than 500 bottles, which are locked securely in a bespoke whisky lounge at his home, Mr Viet said he would continue to build on his collection.
He said: “For me, whisky collecting has been my life’s passion. Every spare I moment I get, I’m searching auction sites and trading websites to find famous and rare whiskies from around the world.
“As for my collection, I have no intention of selling any of it. Not one bottle. In fact, I’ll continue to hunt for more old and rare bottles and add to and enrich it.”

RW101 co-founder Andy Simpson said: “We were somewhat gobsmacked, not to mention a little envious, when we realised the breadth and depth of Mr Viet’s collection.
“It’s a truly stunning example of one person’s 20-year passion and desire to seek out the finest, rarest bottles of whisky in the world.” (via BBC)

The BBC has some photos of Mr. Viet Nguyen Dinh Tuan’s home bar/parlor and I’m equally as envious of his man cave as I am of his collection. Full of fine art and plush leather couches, it looks like one of the most comfortable rooms on the planet, like a high-end whiskey bar I’d expect to find in the United Kingdom or Switzerland.
