Summer outdoor cooking season is in full swing. Hopefully you’ve already had a chance to fire up your grill – few things taste better than a burger fresh off the open flames this time of year.
YETI just announced the perfect product for peak campfire season. Introducing the YETI Cast Iron Skillet, which the Austin-based outdoor gear company calls “The Last Skillet You’ll Ever Need.”
That’s a bold statement. But the cooler giant is backing it up with an heirloom 12″ skillet designed with the “cast iron masters” at Butter Pat Industries on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. It’s the perfect pan for a delicious sear on a steak or a juicy, buttery-braised chicken thighs.
It’s now available via YETI.com for $400.
Introducing the YETI Cast Iron Skillet
So how is the YETI cast iron pan skillet different from any other cast iron skillet? YETI says each skillet is “hand-cast” for a thinner and lighter pan than your traditional cast iron pan. Each pan is polished and pre-seasoned out of the box, free of any PFOA/PTFF coatings. As a result, you get a signature non-stick barrier that keeps getting better with every time you fire it up. They’re also throwing in a scraper tool and a metal ring rag – accessories every cast iron owner needs to keep their pan in tip top shape.

As a fellow YETI fanboy, I’m pretty excited about the company trailblazing into the premium cookware category. It’s ripe for disruption, with so many brands that make their wares overseas with infeior materials and processes. I have tons of YETI products – coolers, stainless steel drinkware, backpacks. Heck, I even own one of their high quality camping chairs, which is 10x more comfortable and durable than one of those flimsy folding lawn chairs.
Is it pricey? Sure. That’s par for the course when you lock yourself into a serious YETI collection. But kudos to the brand for being fearless about their pursuit of designing high quality products for a certain kind of consumer with a certain kind of elegance.
I can see all kinds of BBQ joints and outdoor cooks using YETI cast iron products in the future. YETI has long supported pitmasters, open-flame cooks, and grillmasters on the professional BBQ circuit, so we’ll see if the strategy pays off.
