A brief story about Stuart Scott from a cancer survivor

“You beat cancer by how you live, why you live and the manner in which you live. So live. Fight like hell.” At last night’s ESPYs, Stuart Scott received the Jimmy V perseverance award for his fight against cancer. His acceptance speech was powerful and inspiring and it brought this cancer survivor to tears

Brief story here about Stuart Scott. I talked to him in 2012. We shot the shit for a moment before I got serious and said, “I’m a cancer survivor, had a transplant in 2009—keep on fighting brotha.” Dude looked at me, leaned over and gave me a hug. “We got a bond man.”

Things aren’t looking good for Stuart Scott these days. In his speech he talked about a stretch of four surgeries in seven days. He talked about barely qualifying for a clinical trial. He talked about death not meaning you lost your battle against cancer.

But he keeps going, he keeps working, he gets up every day and fights. I, for one, am rooting hard for him, I hope you are too.
