Guatemalan artist Dario Escobar is selling a handcrafted McDonald’s cup for the ridiculously low price of $9,000. So much for any size drink for $1?
The 15 x 17 cms. piece is made of cardboard, plastic, gold and pigments. It was actually created in 1998 but was on display at The Armory contemporary art show in New York this past weekend. I don’t know if it was purchased or not, but you better believe I didn’t buy it. I don’t claim to have any sense of value when it comes to art, but buying an empty cup for the price of 2,059 Big Macs isn’t on my bucket list.
Escobar has quite a few interesting sports related sculptures on his website if you’re more into fitness than fast-food. Perhaps you’d like a mini basketball hoop. Are extreme sports your thing? He has a skateboard featuring a Mercedes hood ornament – legally acquired I presume.
