Remembering the time Buzz Aldrin punched a moon landing denier in the face

On July 20th, 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first astronauts to walk on the moon. It was perhaps the most remarkable scientific achievement of the 20th century. But not everybody believed it. Not everybody believed that Armstrong uttered those famous words on the surface of the moon. Some, including conspiracy theorist Bart Sibrel, believed it was a hoax. He even wrote two books about it— A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Moon and Astronauts Gone Wild. For years, Sibrel asked the astronauts of Apollo 11 for an interview. For years he was repeatedly denied.

In 2002, Sibrel lured Buzz Aldrin to a Beverly Hills hotel under false pretenses, told it was an appearance for a Japanese children’s show on space travel. When Aldrin showed up, Sibrel asked him to swear on the Bible that he landed on the moon. He harassed him, he bullied him and he pushed him over the edge. What followed was a great moment in American history. What followed was Aldrin punching Sibrel in the face.

Here is that video.

Twelve years later and still one of the best videos on the internet.
