‘Robot Chicken’ creates couch gag for ‘The Simpsons’

The Simpsons couch gag gets the Robot Chicken treatment this weekend. Fox gives us a behind-the-scenes look at how the stop-motion gag, and the entire Simpson’s word, was built as the greatest play set imaginable.

It’s tough to gather exactly what is going on in this opening scene, but it looks like a lot of fun. The guest couch gags, like the Banksy one mentioned and both of the gags drawn by Bill Plympton, have been great. For one thing, it’s a necessary change of pace from the normal animation. For another, it’s an excellent way to have someone do your work for you. They have to be running out of ideas. In addition to bringing in outside talent, they’ve also been doing parodies lately. I’d love to see them run more intros like the Breaking Bad gag.
