Soledad O’Brien finds home at HBO’s ‘Real Sports’ after CNN ouster

HBO’s Real Sports is on a bit of a hiatus right now but they made quite the splash this afternoon by hiring reporter extraordinaire Soledad O’Brien. The highly acclaimed series with Bryant Gumbel has won 25 Emmy Awards and is widely regarded as the gold standard in sports journalism. O’Brien doesn’t have much of a sports background but then again, Real Sports is not your run-of-the-mill sports program.

Gumbel, for his part, welcomes the addition.

“Soledad’s a respected journalist with a proven track record,” says Bryant Gumbel, host of REAL SPORTS. “Her credibility, broad interests and passion make her a wonderful addition to our program. I’m thrilled to have her on our REAL SPORTS team.”

O’Brien makes her debut on June 25th where she reports on war veterans using MMA to fight PTSD.
