Actors often talk about their “passion project.” Riddick is Vin Diesel’s. The only reason the movie was even made was because he pushed so hard for it. The studio wanted to continue with another PG13 mediocre followup like Chronicles of Riddick, which would have been terrible. Vin Diesel had a vision of what the end result needed to be, but it wasn’t what the studios wanted. Eventually he got his way, but at a price.
