Woman falls off pier while checking Facebook, just misses updating status

Social media can be deadly for tourists. A Taiwanese woman vacationing in Melbourne fell off a pier while checking Facebook on her phone. Current Facebook status: DROWNING.

The woman was rescued by speedboat after spending 20 minutes in the water. She did not know how to swim.

“She still had her mobile phone in her hand and initially she apologised… she said ‘I was checking my Facebook page on the phone and I’ve fallen in’.”

The local constable offered some wise words—words we should all live by.

Constable Kelly called on people to pay more attention when using social media around water.

Oh Constable Kelly, you sir are a keen observer of the human condition.

Allow me to offer some wise words of my own: If you don’t know how to swim, please refrain from falling off piers. Also, falling off piers in general is not a great idea.
