How are you unwinding this weekend? Maybe happy hour at the bar with friends? Maybe dinner and a date? Maybe taking in Fist Fight with Charlie Day and Ice Cube or John Wick 2 or The Lego Batman Movie? OR just ordering a pizza and grabbing a six pack and doing nothing at all — After all, Superbad is on Netflix and you still haven’t watched Bill Burr’s latest comedy special.
In Finland actually a word for that bliss of a night in. It’s called kalsarikannit and it basically means you like to sit at home and get drunk by yourself in your underwear, as millions and millions and millions do on a Friday night. via the Chicago Tribune:
Now, though, Finland has upped the ante. The country’s tourism board just introduced us to a word aptly describing life in 2017: Kalsarikannit (pronounced cal-sar-y-cuhn-eet), defined as “the feeling when you are going to get drunk home alone in your underwear with no intention of going out.”
Is it a noun? A verb? Does one kalsarikannit, or does one take a kalsarikannit? Who cares, frankly — turns out my house has been a temple to kalsarikannit this entire time. I intend to spend every weekend in pursuit of holiness. See ya later, pants.
Personally, I plan on eating so much pizza on my couch that I’ll fill my belly button with marinara sauce. It’s been a long week and I can’t wait to try a sixer of Dogfishhead’s SeaQuench Ale.
