Insane Rogue Wave Takes Out More Than 100 Beachgoers On The Australian Coast

Whoa, Mother Nature. This is just frightening.

So I know that rouge waves are a phenomena usually reserved for the middle of the ocean, but to be honest, I don’t know what else to call the wave in this crazy footage below. It’s like something out of a nightmare. On January 9, a set of enormous freak waves came out of nowhere and utterly molly whopped more than 100 beachgoers on the Australian coast who were enjoying a sunny day at Sydney’s figure eight tide pools, a popular tourist attraction in a national park.

In this first wild video, a man can be heard shouting, “Oh FUCK, brace yourselves!” right before the massive wave careens into the cliffed coast.

Safe to say this is not how people thought their day at the beach would go. Numerous tourists were unfortunately injured, as detailed by this local news broadcast that also contains a few more videos and pictures of the harrowing events.

Absolutely crazy stuff, and remarkable that no one was killed. I couldn’t imagine the feeling of enjoying a nice, sunny day at the beach, only to look and see a massive wall of water ferociously rolling my way. Getting haplessly rag-dolled over those rocks and tide pools against my own will is something I never need to experience, that’s for sure. Hard pass.
