While all of the drunks and stoners of the world were absolutely thrilled to hear about Lyft partnering with Taco Bell earlier this week, the people having to do the actual driving were NOT very happy about it.
“We enjoy bringing new experiences to life for our passengers, and Taco Mode allows them to extend the night in a way that hasn’t been done before,” said Lyft’s head of marketing Melissa Waters in a statement. “We’re combining two of our passengers’ favorite activities — a night out with friends and enjoying Taco Bell — which means there is even more of the night to love.”
In the mode for tacos? Lyft and @tacobell are bringing you the first-ever ride-thru experience with Taco Mode. https://t.co/gD2fWtUWsY pic.twitter.com/gWGWOOUArQ

This “new experience” of being able to eat Taco Bell between the hours of 9 p.m. and 2 a.m. while riding in a Lyft car went over like a lead balloon, however, with many, many drivers.
Any guess as to why? How about the fact that people (i.e. drunk and/or stoned people) will be eating Taco Bell in their cars? Yeah…that won’t make a mess.

they should never eat anything in YOUR car and for them to promote this is foul.

What incentive do drivers get for sitting for 15 minutes getting paid pennies per min at a drive thru so that riders can get their "taco on"

If my car smells like tacos and I get lower ratings, you will review these ratings, right? How about compensate me for the mess pax make?
— Pup Kaladin (@pup_dukarc) July 25, 2017
Yes let's let the pax throw their trash on the drivers floor. Or dump food on the seats and floor. Do you all even care about our vehicles?

Great, make it EASIER for people to puke and make a mess with food in my car, while i get paid $.13 a minute waiting for 30 min the line 😡

@lyft no food or drinks in my car, especially drunk passengers, are you crazy??
— Allen Grow (@AllenGrow) July 25, 2017
Drivers lose…first on time wasted in drive thru, then on future pax smelling leftover Taco Bell. #NotInMyCar

Even some Lyft customers were less than thrilled at this new promotion…
I'm a customer, and this sounds awful. Mess in the car, longer wait times because people have to go to drive thrus. Bad idea.
— Matt (@the1mattsmith) July 26, 2017
That's a super bad move to do this without consulting the drivers. I'm a paying customer and this sounds awful.

One the plus side, maybe, drivers (and passengers) can opt out of the service, but it remains to be seen whether doing so will end up costing them fares as a result.
Drivers will be able to opt in or not once Taco Bell Mode has rolled out https://t.co/sBpJBlRtVI. DM us with other questions. https://t.co/SXpdictw1A
