Are you familiar with the ’70s rock band Devo, the new wave electropunk band behind the synthpop classic “Whip it”? On Friday, September 11th, the band’s co-founder Jerry Casale — an infamous wine snob — got married at the age of 67 in Santa Monica. Rather than having a white arbor and a DJ playing the Cha-Cha slide, TMZ reports Casale and his bride threw an EXTREMELY distasteful September 11th attacks-themed wedding on the 14th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks that took almost 3,000 America lives in Lower Manhattan, Virginia, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
The wedding — at Michael’s Restaurant in Santa Monica, according to TMZ — featured a Twin Towers cake with the bride and groom and box cutters as party favors. Table seating cards included “Gerald & Krista” engraved in a box cutter. How romantic!
“We’re told Jerry and Krista’s friends weren’t the least bit fazed because they both have a dark and strange sense of humor.
As one guest put it … Jerry has “real heart as an artist, and is a super sweet guy.”
“Gerald & Krista” engraved box cutter. Ah yes — Having a “dark and strange” sense of humor makes a 9/11-themed wedding less offensive.
Congrats to the happy couple? I wonder if their honeymoon includes a trip to the 9/11 Memorial.
Now whip it good…
