We always want to know that if we’re not better than other people, then we’re at least “on par” with everyone else. It’s all about the competition and bragging rights. Saying “I last 4.8 seconds in bed and not a millisecond longer” isn’t exactly something you bring home to mama, but saying “I last ~5 minutes in bed” is perfectly a-okay since it’s right about average. If you can’t brag about being exemplary, just brag about being the same as everyone else! It’s better than nothing.
