Forget ‘The Dress,’ This Is Your New Favorite Optical Illusion That Will Blow Your Mind

Remember “The Dress,” that freaky optical illusion that took over the ENTIRE Internet for like 32 hours back in February? While people went bananas over that silly piece of cloth (That was definitely blue by the way – #TeamBlue), the good folks over at Asap Science have brought us a new mindfuck that will make your argue with strangers as to what is exactly on a screen.

This whimsical optical illusion actually has a purpose, unlike “The Dress,” which only caused problems because you got so incensed that you called your aunt Malinda, “A dumb bitch, who doesn’t know her colors” on Facebook. This video is not just some dopey illusion, it also serves as an optometrist. When you see this image up close you should see Albert Einstein, but when you’re farther away it will look like Marilyn Monroe. However if you see the image up close and see the lovely Marilyn, then you need glasses.

Another cool trick that applies to four-eyed fucks like myself, take off your glasses, Einstein magically transforms into Marilyn Monroe (It’s like opposite beer goggles).

The optical illusion was created several years ago by neuroscientists at MIT lead by Dr. Aude Oliva.

From the smart people at MIT:

The hybrid images change interpretation as a function of viewing distance. Hybrids combine the low-spatial frequencies of one picture with the high spatial frequencies of another picture producing an image with an interpretation that changes with viewing distance.

I’m #TeamEinstein all the way on this one.

Watch as Clark Kent turns into Superman when you zoom out to 25%.

You can check out some more hybrid images on MIT’s website.
