There has been much controversy over the quarterback position for the San Francisco 49ers.
Many still have high hopes for Trey Lance even though all signs point toward Brock Purdy being the starter once he’s healthy.
The franchise signing Sam Darnold made the quarterback room a bit murky for how things will play out this offseason. But now it’s even more unclear after the 49ers signed another veteran QB.
According to Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo, San Francisco has officially signed Brandon Allen. The team now has four quarterbacks all capable of making the final roster.
Try your best to ignore the portion of the tweet about Joe Burrow.
Veteran QB Brandon Allen is signing with the #49ers, sources tell me and @MikeGarafolo.
Allen helped mentor Joe Burrow in Cincinnati the past three years. Now Allen joins a young QB room in San Francisco. #TakeItOffMG

This might actually be a smart move due to Brock Purdy and Trey Lance both recovering from injuries. Their availability is unclear at this very moment.
So, Brandon Allen brings some insurance to the 49ers QB room. Even so, football fans speculate other ideas as to what this signing could mean.
How many mid QBs do they need

If Purdy and Lance are hurt, perhaps it’ll come down to Sam Darnold or Brandon Allen to start as the 49ers’ QB.
Could beat darnold imo

It never hurts to have as much competition as possible in training camp.

The 49ers find themselves in a weird place mainly due to the injuries to Brock Purdy and Trey Lance.
It’s hard to imagine either Darnold or Allen winning the starting job outright if the other two are healthy. If anything, the 49ers are simply hedging their bets this offseason.
