  • 50 Cent was one of the many rappers to perform during the Super Bowl LVI halftime show.
  • While performing “In Da Club”, Fifty paid homage to the 2003 music video for the hit single.
  • The moment inspired tons of memes and 50 Cent has since responded.

Depending on how old you are, the Super Bowl LVI halftime show — which consisted of Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and 50 Cent — was either one of the best you’ve ever seen or one of the worst. My in-his-60s Dad literally texted me saying, and I quote, “Worst halftime show EVER.”

Regardless of how you felt about the performance’s quality, though, there’s one aspect of it that was undeniable, and that was the meme-ability of 50 Cent’s portion, which saw the New York City rapper perform his 2003 Get Rich or Die Tyrin’ hit “In Da Club.”

50 Cent has obviously heard the jokes about him as he recently took to Instagram to share his response to the wisecracks, which he considered to be a form of fat-shaming.

“I call this teasing me, They’re just teasing me because they know i can drop the weight. that’s why i laugh with them. Fat shaming only applies when your ashamed of your fat,” 50 Cent wrote on IG.

To be fair, I didn’t think that the memes were about his weight, but about the fact that he was hanging upside like a bat.

For as entertaining as 50 Cent’s performance may have been, my favorite moment was easily when Kendrick Lamar took that stage. That dude just exuberates cool at all times. Hopefully 2022 is the year that he FINALLY decides to bless us with a new album, as it’s now been close to five years (in April) since his last record, DAMN., was released.
