Alabama has been linked to another notable transfer QB this week. The news comes shortly after the program was rumored to be tampering with a signal caller from the ACC.

The most recent target has direct ties to the Crimson Tide coaching staff, and he’d provide an immediate upgrade under center.

While the cupboard is never bare in regard to the Alabama roster, the Tide do find themselves in a season of transition. Probable No. 1 NFL Draft pick Bryce Young is gone after a pair of successful seasons, leaving the offense to find his replacement.

In his two years as a starter, the Tide won 24 games, landed an SEC championship, and played for a national title. Without him, the quarterback room is largely inexperienced.

The departure leaves just one player with starting experience in Jalen Milroe, who filled in during Young’s shoulder injury. Combined, the remaining signal callers on the Crimson Tide’s roster boast just one start and 35 completions.

With that being said, Alabama is a candidate to take a QB in the transfer portal should they find the right fit.

Last week, they were rumored to be in contact (illegally) with Miami passer Tyler Van Dyke. TVD had not entered his name into the portal, leading to the tampering accusations.

That message board speculation doesn’t seem to have amounted to anything, but recent news on the transfer wire has folks talking about Bama once again.

Notre Dame’s Tyler Buchner has entered the portal. His offensive coordinator last season? New Crimson Tide OC Tommy Rees.

Buchner was productive under center for the Fighting Irish last year, throwing for 651 yards in his final three games. The passer threw for three scores and ran for four more, flashing his dynamic dual threat ability.

His breakout performance came in the season finale as he accounted for five touchdowns and more than 300 yards in a 45-38 win over South Carolina.

Now, he could find himself facing a schedule full of those SEC foes.

Fans and media have been quick to make the connection between Buchner and Alabama, posting their responses about the QB’s future.

College football writer Pete Thamel wrote, “Notre Dame’s Tyler Buchner to enter transfer portal, per sources. Alabama looms as most logical option because of Bama’s need and his ties to new Bama OC Tommy Rees.”

SEC writer Barrett Sallee said, “The connection between Tyler Buchner and Tommy Rees certainly makes Alabama an option for Buchner.”

Some are saying he’s already got a visit to Tuscaloosa on his mind.

Not everyone is sold, though.

It will be interesting to see how the transfer decision plays out for Tyler Buchner.
