With Bill Belichick now not among one of the league’s 32 head coaches, Andy Reid is probably the most respected coach in the NFL. The Chiefs head coach seems to only get better with age and experience.

He’s been known as a great scheme and playcalling guru for three decades now, dating back to his time as an assistant in Green Bay under Mike Holmgren. But, his ability to connect with and be loved by his players is a significant part of his success.

It’s hard to find a current or former player with either the Philadelphia Eagles or the Kansas City Chiefs that was coached by Reid and has anything bad to say about him.  One of those former players is retired quarterback Alex Smith.

Alex Smith played for Andy Reid from 2013-2017, which was the best stretch of her career. He led Kansas City to the playoffs in 2013,  2015, 2016, and 2017 in that stretch before relinquishing his starting job to a pretty good quarterback named Patrick Mahomes. He made three Pro Bowls in that stretch as well, getting the honor in 2013, 2016, and 2017.

He’s been out of the league for a few years now, with the end of his career accelerated by the terrible leg injury he suffered in 2018. He hasn’t played in the league since 2020, winning NFL Comeback Player of the Year that year.

Smith has now moved into the media, and has worked with ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown. On Wednesday, he appeared on another ESPN show, The Pat McAfee Show, and McAfee brought up Andy Reid’s famed love for cheeseburgers. Here’s what Alex Smith had to say.

The Andy Reid-cheeseburger love affair has become quite a meme lately, but it seems that it continues to be the real deal.
