Ever since the calendar turned to 2022, Ja Morant has taken things to an entirely different level. His 52-point outing against the Spurs, however, was something seriously special. Morant officially has NBA legends and anyone still sleeping on him paying very close attention to what’s going on in Memphis.

Morant became the first player in Grizzlies’ history to score 50 points after going 22-for-30 from the field and 4-for-4 from three-point land against San Antonio. This all came just two days after he posted a career-high 46 points in Chicago against the Bulls on Tuesday.

It wasn’t a boring 52 points for Morant, either. He managed to put 7-footer Jakob Poeltl on a poster with a vicious dunk and also hit one of the craziest buzzer beaters of all time right before halftime.

His dunk on Poeltl will undoubtedly be in a commercial very, very soon.

Then came the buzzer-beater with 0.4 seconds left in the first half. Morant somehow made catching a full-court pass in mid-air and hitting the shot look effortless.

Morant’s 52-point outburst marked the sixth time this season he’s scored at least 40 points in a game. He also now unofficially owns the Spurs seeing as how Tuesday night marked the third time he’s gone for at least 40 points against them in his career.

Allen Iverson Boosts Ja Morant MVP Hype

After averaging 29.1 points per game in the month of January, Morant averaged 33 points a night in February.

The Morant for MVP chatter has been relatively quiet everywhere not named Memphis, but it’s starting to get louder.

Allen Iverson is certainly paying attention. The 2001 NBA MVP posted a picture of his Maurice Podoloff Trophy on Twitter with a Morant jersey draped over it with the caption “Sooner or Later!!!”

Iverson had nothing but great things to say about Morant during an interview during the NBA All-Star Game. Morant has also said in the past that Iverson has been a player he’s always looked up to, so it was only right he reacted to AI’s picture with a “pass the torch OG” message on Twitter.
