One of the great coincidences of the 2026 FIFA World Cup being held in North America, and more specifically the United States, is that it means that the England national team and thousands of England fans will likely be in the U.S. on July 4 for the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Of course, that’s old history, but in the lead-up to the World Cup, it sure seems as if plenty of Brits still hold little fondness in their hearts for the U.S.

Which makes it even funnier that England captain Harry Kane, the team’s superstar striker, recently signed a copy of the Declaration of Independence at a training session in Kansas City.

U.S. Fan Tricks England World Cup Squad Into Signing Declaration of Independence

TikTok user @Lex_Life24749 and her friend Andrew recently attended one of England’s open training sessions at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City.

Following the training session, the England players went around signing autographs for all of the fans. What they did not know, however, is that they would also be signing the United States Declaration of Independence.

As part of the trick, Andrew printed out several copies of the Declaration of Independence and then flipped it over when England players came around, getting them to unknowingly sign the document.

Now, listen, is it the official Declaration of Independence? Of course not. Everyone knows that the original thing belongs to Nicolas Cage, and he clearly keeps it in a case in his bedroom. Duh.

However, it’s still a pretty troll job.

“Somebody should write up a contract to where they have to call it soccer and then go have everybody sign it,” one person commented on TikTok.

THEY SIGNED IT!!! IT’S LEGAL!!!” wrote another.

I’m pretty sure the Revolutionary War took care of that part.

Either way, it’s nice to see the English national team, and especially Harry Kane, feel so strongly about U.S. independence.
