Andrew Mukuba is one of the top names on the transfer market this offseason. The Clemson safety appears on his way out of Death Valley in hopes of finding a new home.

Reports have been circulating about a recruiting trip to Texas this week, but Mukuba denied claims that he would be in Austin on Thursday.

Mukuba committed to Clemson as part of the Tigers’ 2021 cycle, and he’s been a mainstay in the defensive secondary since. Playing in 35 games over the last three seasons, he’s amassed 143 tackles, a pick, and a pair of fumble recoveries.

Despite the success, which includes a Freshman All-America honor, he’s looking elsewhere as he wraps up his college career.

Mukuba entered the transfer portal in early December ahead of the Tigers’ Gator Bowl matchup against Kentucky. He immediately skyrocketed up the portal rankings.

On3 lists the defensive back as the nation’s No. 2 ranked player at his position, while 247 Sports has him at No. 1.

Playing his high school ball in Austin, Texas immediately stuck out as a potential landing spot for the defender, with many reporting that he’d be on the Longhorns’ campus sometime this week.

Pete Nakos made the claim Thursday that he planned to be at UT Thursday, but Mukuba quickly shut it down.

Fans online quickly responded to the personal “Community Notes” correction, posting replies in the comments section.

“Dunk on them.”

Some are reading between the lines, believing he’s now looking at a rival school.

“Ain’t no way dude trolls Texas likes this and then doesn’t put on the crimson and cream next fall.”

That might be wishful thinking for Sooner Nation.

Other outlets are now saying the recruiting trip to Austin begins on Friday, so a future commitment to the Longhorns remains on the table.
