Patrick Mahomes recently revealed the truth about the events leading up to him being drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs.

During an appearance on “New Heights”, hosted by teammate Travis Kelce and his brother Jason, Mahomes revealed that he had gotten some help from a Chiefs coach during the draft process.

Mahomes told the Kelce brothers that he had a meeting with Andy Reid where they spent hours talking about plays. It turns out that former Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy had told him in advance which plays to study.

The Chiefs went on to pick Mahomes 10th overall in the 2017 draft.

Yesterday Andy Reid learned the truth about that meeting with Mahomes and had a hilarious response to the revelation. He told reporters, “Are you serious? Geez, I didn’t know that. Man, I would have never taken him.”

We’ll never know if Patrick Mahomes’ preparation for that meeting actually had any impact on the Chiefs’ decision to draft him, but we do know one thing for sure. This story makes Nagy look pretty smart for doing what he could to help Mahomes end up with the Chiefs.

It’s worked out pretty well for them as Mahomes wasted no time becoming one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks. He was named the NFL MVP in his 2nd year in the league. In year 3 he won the Chiefs a Super Bowl.

He hasn’t slowed down since and once again has the Chiefs looking like one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl even after they traded away Tyreek Hill during the offseason.

Matt Nagy definitely made the right move giving him a little bit of help before his meeting.
