Angel Reese made WNBA history on Thursday afternoon and stayed extremely humble about the impressive feat. She was less focused on individual accomplishment than she was team success.

The 22-year-old’s postgame interview offered a very different approach from how she addressed the media less than 48 hours prior.

Reese has been at the center of a vitriolic dialogue about the WNBA and rise of women’s basketball alongside Caitlin Clark and is often portrayed as a villain. Regardless of whether the role is warranted and self-imposed or not, there is a negative stigma that surrounds the No. 7 overall pick in a lot of circles. Some people absolutely hate her without even knowing her or watching a game. As a result of all the constant negativity, she was extremely short during a post-practice interview on Tuesday night.

On the other side of that conversation, WNBA fans appreciate Reese’s on-court abilities for what they are.

It is hard impossible to deny her talent as a basketball player. She can hoop. Period.

The Chicago Sky has been very up and down this season. Mostly the latter. It began the year at 3-3 with wins over Dallas, New York and Los Angeles but lost six of its last seven games entering Thursday.

Wins and losses aside, Reese is on a roll!

She became the only rookie in WNBA history to record seven consecutive double-doubles in the daytime game on Thursday. Here is the board and bucket that did it:

The 6-foot-3 forward put an exclamation mark on the historic run with an extremely impressive 16 point and 18 rebound performance in a win over the Wings.

Angel Reese made history!

No rookie in WNBA history has ever played seven-straight games better than Reese. Really about that for a second! It has been the best seven-game stretch for a rookie, ever.

  • vs. New York — 13 points, 10 rebounds
  • vs. Washington — 16 points, 11 rebounds
  • vs. Atlanta — 13 points, 13 rebounds
  • vs. Connecticut — 20 points, 10 rebounds
  • at Washington — 10 points, 14 rebounds
  • at Indiana — 11 points, 13 rebounds
  • vs. Dallas — 16 points, 18 rebounds

Even though the record is very cool, she cared more about the result. Reese just wants to win.

In addition to putting her team first, there was a lot of humility during her postgame press conference. The double-double streak is great. However, Reese understands that she still has a lot of room to grow and put gratitude at the forefront.

Say what you will about Angel Reese and how she carries herself, but Thursday’s interview was a very positive display of character. And seven consecutive double-doubles is dominant!
