The Colorado Rockies won an exciting contest over the New York Yankees on Sunday, and they might’ve been aided by an announcer’s jinx. Prior to the game’s final at-bat, the broadcast dropped an interesting tidbit about the hitter at the plate.

Lo and behold, that bit of knowledge would immediately come back to bite the Yankees.

In what was a back-and-forth outing, the two teams traded leads five times. Colorado scored four runs in the eighth inning to grab a 5-3 advantage before New York stormed back with two runs in the ninth.

After going scoreless in the 10th, the offense picked up in the 11th frame.

The Bronx Bombers plated a pair of runs in the top half of the inning, but the Rockies would soon bring fireworks of their own. Nolan Jones tied the game up with two-run homer before Alan Trejo stepped up to the dish.

What was then seen can only be blamed on the “announcer’s jinx.”

“Trejo, in 120 at-bats, does not have a home run this year,” the announcer says moments before the infielder exploded on a pitch from Ron Marinaccio.

Fans were quick to point out the jinx.

One baseball viewer said, “As soon as he said it.”

Another wrote, “That was perfectly timed.”

This fan commented, “It’s even better because it’s the Yankees.”

Trejo was showered with water upon rounding the bases as the Rockies secured a series win. They have the announcer to thank for Sunday’s dramatic victory.
