Ashton Jeanty is one of the best running backs in college football who isn’t getting enough love. The 20-year-old Boise State ball-carrier went for 1,347 yards and 14 touchdowns last season.
His goal is much greater for 2024!
Jeanty spoke about his expectations for the fall at Mountain West media day on Wednesday. Well, technically, he wasn’t there. His age quite literally prevented him from attending.
The Mountain West Conference held its media day at the Circa Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, which seems like a bad idea. It does not allow anybody under the age of 21 on the premises.
Jeanty will not be granted admission for another five months. Not even for a special occasion!
Despite the restrictions, Jeanty is perhaps the biggest star in the Mountain West this year and found it important to represent the Broncos at the most important event of the preseason. Boise State helped to make it happen. The school set him up with his own individual media. Jeanty held a solo interview at the Bellagio, which allows people of all ages.
While there, the 5-foot-9, 210-pound bowling ball revealed his lofty individual goal for his third year. Jeanty wants to run for 2,000 yards. And the pressure is on!
Redshirt junior offensive lineman Mason Randolph got Jeanty to agree to cut his dreads if he hits the 2K mark. He’s been growing them for about two and a half years.
That might seem counterintuitive. If Jeanty has the best season of his career, he loses the bet and has to cut his own hair. However, his logic is rooted in teamwork.
Ashton Jeanty says his goal is to rush for 2,000 yards this year. If he does – the dreads are getting cut due to a friendly bet with Mason Randolph.

Randolph wants Ashton Jeanty to cut his dreadlocks. The agreement gives the 6-foot-4, 302-pound trench warrior even more motivation to get his running back to the 2,000-yard mark.
Hair can grow back. A 2,000-yard college football season lasts forever!
