The WNBA Finals are less than one week away, and yet one team, the Atlanta Dream, still isn’t sure where it will play its home games during the best-of-seven series.
Atlanta, who took out both the Indiana Fever and New York Liberty to reach the finals for the first time since 2013, split their regular-season home games between State Farm Arena – home to the Atlanta Hawks – and Gateway Center Arena, which hosts the College Park Skyhawks of the NBA G League.
Ideally, the Dream would play its home finals games at State Farm Arena, which holds around 20 thousands people, compared to just 3.5 thousand people at Gateway Center Arena.
However, that may not be possible!
The Atlanta Dream Are Shut Out Of State Farm Arena
Unfortunately for Atlanta, State Farm Arena is already booked for the scheduled dates of its three WNBA Finals home games.
The venue is set to host a Sombr concert on Oct. 22, while the Atlanta Hawks have home games scheduled on both Oct. 24 and Oct. 29. As the primary tenant of the arena, the Hawks take precedence, even though the Dream is in the Finals.
Last week, Dream president and chief operating officer Morgan Shaw Parker said the team was “finalizing details on their home venue and where we will be playing” for the Finals.
Those plans have still yet to be confirmed.
Meanwhile, the Golden State Valkyries will host Games 1, 2, as well as 5 and 7 (if necessary), at the Chase Center in San Francisco, which has a capacity of 18,064.
State Farm Arena will serve as the Dream’s full-time home beginning in 2026. However, that doesn’t exactly help the team’s current situation.
