Auburn University men’s basketball is 0-2 in its last two games. The Tigers dropped their second-straight game on Saturday and the loss comes with extremely unfortunate timing.

Auburn Athletics posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, about ‘A-Day Weekend’ on Jan. 18. It was a promotional post that reminded fans to save the date. Softball, tennis and baseball will have games that weekend. Football will play its spring game at Jordan-Hare.

Although the initial post was harmless, it led to an unfathomable follow-up. The Tigers are not superstitious, apparently.

A fan who goes by ‘shaquille oatmeal’ responded to Auburn with a reminder about that specific weekend. Not only is it A-Day weekend, the Final Four of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament will also take place on those dates.

Here is where the Tigers made their big mistake.

In response to Mr. Oatmeal, Auburn Athletics guaranteed that Bruce Pearl’s team will be one of the last four college basketball teams remaining in March Madness. Whomever was behind the keyboard should not have said what he or she said.

It was a blatant jinx, and it would have been easier to simply not post the post. That was on Jan. 20.

The Tigers actually defeated the Ole Miss Rebels later that afternoon. But then they went on the road.

Auburn lost at Alabama on Wednesday. It lost at Mississippi State on Saturday. Not great!

Two losses will not destroy the season. Especially in a year where the SEC is as strong as it is from top to bottom.

However, the proof is in the pudding. The Tigers are 0-2 since the day that they guaranteed a Final Four.

People are going to be RUTHLESS online if Auburn does not reach the Final Four after its post earlier this week. More than 100 different profiles have bookmarked the tweet for a later date.
