Auburn beat Alabama in the Iron Bowl on Saturday by the count of 48-45, but just pretty much every Iron Bowl, there was some serious drama.

Just before halftime, Bo Nix completed a pass to JaTarvious Whitlow for a first down to the Alabama 34-yard-line with one second left. After Whitlow was tackled, the clock initially hit zero to end the half, but after a review, the officials put one second back on the clock. It was still a live-ball situation, but it allowed Auburn to put its field goal unit on the field and snap it as soon as the officials started the clock.

The Tigers got the snap off and Anders Carlson nailed the 52-yard attempt to cut the Alabama lead to 31-27 at the break. Again, just a reminder here, Auburn won the football game by three. It’s also worth noting Alabama missed a game-tying field goal with just over six minutes left in the contest.

While the game was an instant classic with plenty of ups and downs for both sides, that one second was a big one.

As Auburn folks do after beating Alabama, they troll Bama fans for the next 365 days and Auburn Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Joe Aistrup, got off to a great start by posting an official statement to professors telling them to add exactly one second to the allotted time for exams during finals week.

This is pretty classic, even the school of liberal arts is getting in on the fun. It’s subtle, but sometimes the most subtle troll jobs are the best. The one second is also a shout at the infamous pick six game back in 2013.

You give Auburn one extra second, there’s no telling what it can do.
